We had a nice visit to the Columbus Ohio Temple today as a family.

Me (trying to be that great mom who seizes a teaching moment with her children): “The temple is a very special place. Because of the temple, we can be an eternal family.”

Alex: “What?! We can’t be a turtle family!”

(Duly noted . . . “forever” makes much more sense to a four-year-old than “eternal.”)

July 11, 2013

Here's some of what we're keeping busy with this summer:
Fun at the splash pad

A rainy bike ride to the local 4th of July parade

Play dates with friends (this is Katie's best friend, Ashley)

A visit to the museum center (a really cool converted train station that houses a Cincinnati history museum, children's museum, and museum of natural history)

The T-Rex at the museum really liked Abby  :)

Aboard a 1940s Cincinnati streetcar in the city museum

Get-togethers with our friends the Millars, who just moved here from Salt Lake--we were medical school buddies, about 5 kids ago! (Is it just me, or is Abby starting to pull that You-Can-Put-Away-the-Camera-Now-Mom look in pictures?)

Abby's soccer camp--her first shot at the sport!

Feeding the ducks at the park (which always makes me think of Grandma Phyllis and Sugarhouse Park . . .)

Ice cream!

Lots of park fun

. . . and the summer isn't even half over!

A Summer Week

As Luke is in the middle of a 16-day stretch without a single day off, Abby informed me tonight that when she grows up, she does not want to marry a doctor. She wants to marry a writer, because "they're always home."

Yes, we miss him, but we're plugging along and have had some fun this week:

We ventured out to the Starlite drive-in theater to see "Monsters University" . . . the kids loved sitting on a blanket in the grass and watching the big screen! (The movie was hilarious too.) It reminded me of my first drive-in movie--"E.T."--when I was 9 and my family was on vacation in Maine. Good times! (And yes, it required huge amounts of self-control for Luke to drive away before "Man of Steel" started!)

Katie had a great time at a three-day Girl Scout camp (5 hours/day) at a nearby park. She was brave about going without knowing a soul and had fun making crafts, learning songs, and being in nature.

Park day today . . . it's cool, breezy, and rainy here -- my apologies to everyone melting in the West!

More gardening/craft projects . . . I know you care about my plants. Who wouldn't care about my plants? Don't worry, I'll keep posting pictures of my plants.
