Happy Holidays, Family and Friends!
Here's our Top 10 of 2010:

10. Another great year in St. Louis--the farm, the zoo, the botanical garden, fun parks, fireflies, wonderful friends and neighbors

9. New adventures in gardening (for Carrie) and home improvements (for Luke)

8. Opportunities to serve at church with the Primary children and the young men

7. Alex's favorites: trains, balls, books, chocolate milk, his hand-me-down Barbie trike . . . and chattering to us about all of them

6. Katie's favorites: preschool, bike rides with Daddy, her baby dolls and critters, dressing up as a ballerina, and giving our gerbil lots of attention

5. Abby's favorites: reading, reading, and more reading; drawing, playing the piano, and riding a two-wheeler (without training wheels!)

4. A fall trip to Nauvoo, Illinois, to learn more about our pioneer heritage

3. Visits from both sets of grandparents :)

2. Summer road trips to Colorado and Utah to see love ones (lots of family bonding time in the car!)

1. News of another big move ahead: Cincinnati, Ohio, (summer 2012) for Luke's pediatric radiology fellowship! (you're not cool unless you live in four different time zones for your medical training . . . )

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thanksgiving Visitors

Grandma and Grandpa Linscott joined us for Thanksgiving!
~"The Spread"~

Moving on to Christmas preparations with Grandma . . .

A chilly visit to the zoo . . .

Snuggly jammies and carols by the fire . . . very fun!

It's always great to have visitors!!

Trimming Our Tree

See? Everything always goes perfectly smoothly around here . . .

It's good we snapped this picture, because the ornaments didn't stay on the tree for long. In Alex's opinion, why have them dangling from a tree when you can be pushing them around in a doll stroller all day? C'mon, guys!

Pops & Grannie . . . and Nauvoo

My parents came to visit us last weekend, and we had a wonderful time together! It was so great to see them.

While they were here, we took a road trip to Nauvoo, IL, together (about 3.5 hours away). We've been wanting to visit Nauvoo ever since we moved here, and I'm so glad we finally did. I hadn't been there since I was 10 years-old, and Luke and the kids had never been there. What a unique place!

The Nauvoo Temple is brilliant, sitting atop a hill that overlooks a bend in the Mississippi River. It's thrilling to see it restored to its original beauty of the 1840s, when the Mormons were forced to leave it behind after their many months of painstaking labor and sacrifice to build it. Unfortunately, it was closed for maintenance, so Luke and I will definitely need to go back to visit the inside!

Here are the seven of us at Carthage Jail, where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were killed in 1844. My appreciation and admiration for these brave men--and many other heroes--were renewed during our time there.

The girls and I tried to act out one of the scenes in the women's garden at the visitor's center. (Alex wasn't interested!) These life-size bronze statues depict the various stages of a woman's life and are really beautifully done.

We took a horse-drawn wagon ride through the countryside and heard stories about the pioneers who lived in Nauvoo. It was cold but beautiful in the autumn sunshine.

We were definitely touched by the special spirit that pervades the area.

Abby was thrilled when one of the characters in the "Nauvoo Rendezvous" play was named Abigail. The sister missionary who played "Abigail" shared her hat and posed for a picture with Abby.

It was awesome to have Pops and Grannie all to ourselves! We were sad to see them go . . . and can't wait for their NEXT visit!!

More Halloween-ish Happenings

October was full of this:

carving pumpkins,

Katie's preschool parade and program,

Abby's school parade . . .

. . . and her class party,

and a great Trunk-or-Treat at church (where I guess we were having too much fun to take pictures!). Katie was a ballerina for this event, which marked her 4th costume this Halloween. Luckily, we had them all on hand--no shopping required. That girl does like to keep us on our toes!
